Paraben-Free is the New Black, but WHY?!

By  |

Let’s Talk Parabens:

So what does it mean to be “Paraben-Free” and why is this such a buzzword in beauty circles? First and foremost, a paraben is a preservative that can be found in over 85% of your personal care products. This includes cosmetics, lotions, shampoos, deodorants and the list goes on Manufacturers use parabens because of their ability to increase the lifespan of products by stopping the growth of bacteria and mold. However, scientists also discovered that parabens were linked to breast-cancer and reproductive complications. Because of its harmful effects, more beauty companies started transitioning to paraben-free products. One of the most common alternatives is Grapefruit Seed Extract. (Citrus Grandis). This ingredient is popular because it has antimicrobial properties similar to parabens, along with high concentration of vitamins A, C, E and antioxidants. Some of my favorite Good Earth Beauty products that have high concentrations of grapefruit seed extract, are the Facial Toner Mist , Hemp Seed Facial Scrub  and their All Over Glow Sun-Kissed Moisturizer
