Lets Make SMARTer Goals

By  |

Yesterday I wrote down a list of some of my long term goals. Note: This list could pertain to your career, relationships, or anything that you want!

Afterwards, I listed some of the immediate steps I could take in order to reach them. Dating back to grade school, I’ve always been advised by my parents, teachers, and even bosses to write down some of the the things I want in life.

Taking time out of my day to complete such a simple task wasnt a hassle but it wasn’t necessarily my top priority.. I had made lists in the past but then shortly forgot about them and eventually I had to ask myself, what’s the point? But looking back, I realize that one of my greatest flaws was that I wasn’t specific enough.

A “SMART” goal is one that is Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Timely. Incorporating all of this criteria helps with focusing ones efforts or actually achieving the goals you have set for yourself. That is what I did last night and let me tell you, after this 20min task i felt so empowered! I felt like I was starting to live my life with more of a purpose and it felt good. If you have a moment to spare today, definitely try this out.

Doing this activity with a trusted friend is also a helpful way to dig deeper and to really figure out what you want.
